Artists celebrate positivity to mark SweetTree’s 20th anniversary

Clients and team members of SweetTree Home Care Services demonstrated their creative talents when they were invited to enter the company’s inaugural art competition.

To mark SweetTree’s 20th anniversary, founder Barry Sweetbaum launched the competition with the theme of ‘Celebrating Positivity’ to inspire and encourage entrants to express themselves through painting, drawing, crafting, sculpting or making.

More than 20 entries were received, with a public vote on SweetTree’s website attracting hundreds of votes.

The winning entry came from clients at SweetTree Fields Farm in Mill Hill, SweetTree’s therapeutic setting which uses animals and nature to help those with support needs to learn new skills and lead more healthy, active and independent lives.

Clients Jack Field, Bastian Willicott, Joe Davies, Jonathan Russell-Hall, Scarlett Serlin, Francesco Furlotti and Jade Webb designed a colourful tree collage which secured them first prize of a large set of Posca Paint Art Marker Pens and a Table Box Easel.

SweetTree asked London artist Sam Henning to provide feedback on the entries and she enthused about the winning entry and the fact that it was a collaboration. Sam said: “It’s really visual. The pictures in the tree are all connected together as all our lives are interconnected and entangled. I particularly like the animals in the piece and the use of symbolism.”

Runner-up Jon Barry won a set of acrylic paints and brushes for his powerful portrait painting. Sam praised its “strong use of colour and sense of emotion.”

SweetTree’s Barry Sweetbaum said: “We were inspired by the fantastic variety and quality of the competition entries.

“The competition was launched to fire enthusiasm and positivity after the long months of lockdowns and to highlight SweetTree’s ethos over the past 20 years of supporting people to lead fulfilling lives and to reach their potential.”
