Brain Injury Support Worker
We currently have opportunities for support workers to work with clients who have sustained a brain injury (either through accident or through illness) and want to get their lives back on track. Successful candidates will have the ability to plan, motivate, use their initiative, be patient, creative and be non-judgmental. You will be supported by our experienced office team and multidisciplinary therapists. All successful candidates will be required to complete our comprehensive induction and training programme and have a minimum 6 months experience in health care, ideally working with people with acquired/traumatic brain injury or long term neurological conditions.
To assist Service Users with activities of daily living as per assessment and care plan completed by the Specialist Manager or Director of Operations.
Duties are varied and personalised to the Service User’s needs such as:
- Supporting service user to carry forward rehabilitation programmes for both cognitive and physical impairment
- Support with executive skills such as budgeting, managing appointments and assisting with correspondence
- Support with behaviour management such as help with emotional needs and anger management
- Support with activities of personal care and daily living
- Support services users to extend their lives by accessing social and employment opportunities
- Liaise with families, friends, advocates, external agencies and the management team to provide a consistent approach that meets the individual needs of each service user
The member of staff would be expected to:
- Preserve independence & dignity of Services User’s as much as possible.
- Report any changes/issues concerning the Service User or the care being provided to
- Read and abide by the care plan implemented by the assessor in the Service User’s guide
- Maintain confidentiality and committing not to divulge information to third parties unless consent to share information has been given in writing and agreed with the Specialist Manager
- Record notes on daily record sheets relating to each visit and monitoring progress
- Support service users to access appropriate health care provision enabling them to make an informed choice regarding any prescribed treatment, seeking advice where they are unable to advocate for themselves.

- To carry out any other duties as stipulated by the Care manager or Specialist Manager
- To report back any areas of risk, not previously identified, to manager
- To work in accordance with your job description/contract of employment and any policies and guidelines of SweetTree Home Care Services
- To work in accordance with the Health & Safety Act 1974
- To contribute to the overall development of the service and promote a positive image of the service users and SweetTree Home care Services.
- To participate in training courses/seminars held internally and by outside agencies
- To prepare, attend and engage in regular supervisions, appraisals and performance review accepting and providing constructive feedback.
- Minimum 6 months of experience and/or training in care preferably in working with adults who have brain injuries, both cognitive and physical impairment
- An understanding of the needs of adults with cognitive and physical impairment who are vulnerable within society
- Demonstrate ability to relate respectfully to people with physical disabilities
- Physically fit and able to undertake safe manual handling practices
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to liaise with outside agencies and other professionals
- Ability to work autonomously and productively as part of a team
- Knowledge of food hygiene/manual handling/health & safety agencies
- Current and clean drivers licence
- Experience of providing care to people living in the community
- Qualification/training relating to neurological disability
A two day Induction course, followed by one day manual handling and one day brain injury training must be completed within before commencement of employment. Care staff will also be required to attend on-going training from time to time to maintain their skills and to comply with SweetTree’s registration requirements. There is also a three monthly in-service review meeting.
