Recognising and supporting family carers – National Dementia Carers’ Day 2017

SweetTree Home Care Services is proud to be supporting National Dementia Carers’ Day 2017, which returns for a third year on Sunday 10 September.

The campaign recognises the efforts of the thousands of ‘hidden’ carers across the UK who are caring for someone close to them who has dementia.

It sees individuals, families and community groups across the country coming together to raise awareness for dementia carers and to highlight the innovative support they provide every single day – which often goes unnoticed.

Founded by SweetTree, Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK, support for the national day continues to grow year on year.

Rikki Lorenti, SweetTree Admiral Nurse, commented: “We’re delighted to again be backing the national day and helping to raise awareness for the job being done by thousands of informal and family dementia carers every day.

“Supporting someone with a diagnosis of dementia is not easy and maintaining quality of life for both parties can sometimes feel like an impossible task. The most important thing families can do is to keep talking and ensure they have all the support they need and that is available to them.”

This year the focus of the national day is ‘Sharing’. Carers are invited to share their own experiences and tips, while members of the public are asked to show their support for a dementia carer they know.

Support organisations, charities and community groups are also encouraged to get involved by holding awareness events to help signpost local sources of advice and support, and to share the details using ‪#‎NDCD17.
