At SweetTree, we place the highest value on our passionate and dedicated carers – the true heart of our company. And so it was with great sadness that we tragically lost a member of our SweetTree family in August last year. Jairo Medina, 62, was a man who exuded exceptional humanity, warmth and compassion throughout his life, and these qualities naturally radiated during his time with SweetTree.
To honour his memory, and together with Joe Behrens – the client Jairo cared for – we launched the Jairo Medina Award, to recognise and celebrate the continued efforts of our dedicated team. Clients, their families, co-workers and other health professionals were all invited to nominate one exceptional SweetTree carer – a person who they felt delivered outstanding high-quality care.
Nominations flooded in and we were overwhelmed by the kind words and stories shared, all of which demonstrated the first-class care and commitment of our team members. Phrases such as ‘Excellent care’, ‘Exceptionally dedicated’, ‘Caring, patient and good-humoured’ ‘Exceptional kindness,’ ‘Total reliability’ and ‘Willingness to go the extra mile’ give just a flavour of the comments we received, and we couldn’t feel more proud of all our carers, who consistently demonstrate that they go to great lengths to ensure their clients feel happy, safe and secure.
But of course, there could only be one winner. This year, Helen, Joe’s daughter-in-law, alongside Nicki Bones reviewed all nominations and were left in awe of the wonderful feedback received about one of our carers. And so it was with great delight that SweetTree, alongside Joe Behrens, awarded Mercedes Fermin with the first ever Jairo Medina Award.
We are delighted that Mercedes is part of the SweetTree family and that, through her dedication and excellence in the field of care, Jairo’s memory can shine on.
